Trevor Lawrence to start at QB for Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars on Wednesday let the world know Trevor Lawrence, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, will be their starting quarterback when they open the season against the Houston Texans.

Lawrence and Gardner Minshew II had been playing quarterback in the preseason and there was some speculation whether the former Clemson star would not get the call. Mainly, because the Jaguars’ offensive line is porous and one had to wonder if head coach Urban Meyer didn’t want to put Lawrence in harm’s way.

That speculation ended with news Lawrence will be on the field and taking snaps when the regular season opens at Houston on Sept. 12.

Lawrence is 20-of-32 for 184 yards in the preseason. He has been sacked three times.

Now, the question is whether Jacksonville will keep Minshew as its backup or use him as a trade chip to a team needing a quarterback. The Jags also have C.J. Beathard in camp.
