Trent Alexander-Arnold sent 'twist' Liverpool message after midfield move

Curtis Jones has explained the message he has been sending to Trent Alexander-Arnold as his Liverpool team-mate adjusts to a new role.

Alexander-Arnold has been used by Jurgen Klopp as an inverted right-back in the last two games, which has allowed him the freedom to move into a more advanced midfield position.

The England international created a late equaliser in the 2-2 Premier League draw with Arsenal two weeks ago, with Alexander-Arnold contributing two more assists in the 6-1 romp at Leeds United on Monday night.

And while not surprised at his fellow Scouser's creative contribution, Jones has been keen to impose playing in the engine room requires different skills to those needed in defence.

"We all know about Trent," said the 22-year-old. "When he picks up the ball and he's got space, he will pick out a pass. I'm always telling Trent, 'Centre mid isn't the same, you've kind of got to twist, you've got to turn'.

"But somehow he still finds his space and that's him. He picks up the ball and he sees things that not many around the world see, so fair play to him and I hope it continues."

Having previously started only one Premier League game all season, Jones - who has been hampered by having to manage an unusual injury - has now lined up for the last three top-flight matches, his longest such run since last January. His assist for Diogo Jota to score Liverpool's third was Jones's first in the Premier League in 18 months.

"I just love the game and I love being around the team and having a chance," he said. "I've started three on the spin, so the confidence is high but it's not through the roof. I've still got a long way to go. I'm just taking each game as it comes and I'm happy."

Liverpool will aim to extend a three-match unbeaten run when they entertain Nottingham Forest on Saturday, where victory could push them up into sixth place.

And Jones, speaking to liverpoolfc.com, said: "You can talk about the goals (at Leeds) and we scored six, but the biggest thing was the energy and the determination of the whole team. We were up against a team that sat deep, so we had to risk the ball a bit more. But we would give away the ball and then the whole team worked their socks off. Happy days.

"We'll forget about this game and look ahead. Forest is a team, again, that's in a position where they're trying to stay up. It's a hard time for them as well, so they will be turning up to give a battle. We're the same as well. It will be a hard game again but we're ready and the confidence is up."
