Trent Alexander-Arnold explains Liverpool's 'extra motivation' for FA Cup final against Chelsea

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold says there is 'extra motivation' to win the FA Cup over Chelsea on Saturday afternoon as it's the one trophy they haven't been able to get their hands on so far.

The Reds have had a successful few years under manager Jurgen Klopp, winning the biggest prizes including the Champions League and Premier League. After securing the Carabao Cup earlier in the campaign, all eyes are now on winning the club's eighth FA Cup trophy.

Liverpool last won the competition in 2006 under Rafa Benitez, beating West Ham United on penalties. They last reached the final 10 years ago in 2012, but were beaten 2-1 by Chelsea on the day.

“I think for a lot of the lads this is the last one,” Alexander-Arnold told liverpoolfc.com. “I think especially as a group since the manager has come in, this is one we haven’t won yet so this is one we obviously want to get our hands on personally and as a collective.

“There’s definitely extra motivation for us. It’s the one we haven’t quite managed to achieve just yet. Obviously this is the closest we’ve been to it so it’s exciting for us and we are looking forward to it and can’t wait to go back to Wembley again.”

The Carabao Cup final in February, also against Chelsea, was goalless after 120 minutes and it took a penalty shootout to separate the two sides. And the Reds full-back expects another close encounter on Saturday afternoon when they meet again at Wembley.

Alexander-Arnold added: “Tactically they are very well regimented, and they know what they are doing, as do we. So, two very different styles of football come together and often creates a very good game.”
