Trent Alexander-Arnold could give Jurgen Klopp Liverpool boost after devastating England injury blow

Liverpool are said to be hopeful Trent Alexander-Arnold can recover from injury in time for pre-season preparations next month.

The Liverpool defender pulled up in the last minutes of England's friendly win against Austria at the Riverside Stadium on Wednesday night, and was in visible discomfort when limping down the tunnel.

And a scan on Thursday confirmed that Alexander-Arnold had suffered a grade two quad tear and was set to face a recovery period of four to six weeks.

It means the fullback will miss this summer's rescheduled Euro 2020 tournament after working so hard to fight his way back into England manager Gareth Southgate's plans.

It was a devastating blow to the young Reds defender who was overlooked by Southgate earlier in the season and responded with impressive performances for his club as he helped them secure Champions League qualification.

Now, Mirror Online report that Liverpool are confident Alexander-Arnold will be able to win the race to be fit in time for the start of pre-season training.

The report states LFC's medical team have assessed the injury and suggestions are the fullback could be side-lined for around a month.

Liverpool are planning to reconvene for pre-season training on July 12, although any player involved in international competition will be given several weeks off after their involvement has been concluded but with Alexander-Arnold withdrawn from the England squad, he will return to Merseyside ahead of schedule.

It would be a welcome boost for Klopp to have one of his biggest stars available ahead of what they hopes will be another title challenge in the new campaign.

Following the initial news, fans were quick to share their concern and sympathies but unsurprisingly, a few are also hopeful he will be able to concentrate on getting ready for next season.

The player broke his silence on the matter with a short statement yesterday.

In a short, two word post, he tweeted: "Absolutely gutted."

Gini Wijnaldum shared a touching message on social media and said: "Very sad for this great talent. Stay strong my brother and wish you a speedy recovery."
