TreeHouse Foods expands recall over salmonella risk

A voluntary recall of certain macaroni and cheese cup products potentially contaminated with salmonella has been expanded to include more best-by dates.

TreeHouse Foods said the three affected products, distributed nationwide at retailers, are Big Win Original Macaroni & Cheese Dinner, Cheese Club Express Mac Macaroni & Cheese Dinner, and Great Value Macaroni & Cheese Original Cups.

TreeHouse said a supplier has alerted it that milk powder used in the cheddar cheese seasoning "has the potential for salmonella contamination," which can cause diarrhea, fever and cramps. No confirmed illnesses have been reported to date, TreeHouse said.

TreeHouse announced the recall Dec. 11, but on Tuesday said it amended its best-by dates. About a dozen dates have been added for the three products.

A list of the UPC numbers and best-by dates for each of the three products can be found in the news section of www.TreeHouseFoods.com, in a release dated Dec. 27. Consumers who have bought any of the products listed should throw them away or return them to the retailer for a refund, TreeHouse said. Customers with questions can call 800-756-5781.
