Travellers pitch up at Nottingham's Victoria Embankment site

Travellers have moved on to a field at Victoria Embankment in Nottingham.

Residents reported seeings caravans in The Meadows on Wednesday afternoon (August 18).

A resident who spotted seven caravans on the site told Nottinghamshire Live: "It is not the first time this is happening here.

"It seems like it happens regularly, two times every year.

"Everyone has their own way of life and I understand that - but they always leave a mess and then money goes to waste to clean it all after they leave.

"They take over the cricket pitches every now and then and they have no consideration for the people and the costs of the local council for the tidy up afterwards."

It comes as Nottinghamshire Live have visited a site in Highfields Park on Tuesday, August 17, where more than 20 caravans could be easily spotted on the field.

This was shortly after land owner the University of Nottingham had served the travellers with an eviction notice.

The resident who lives in The Meadows and is a regular to the park added: "It is affecting the use of the fields.

"I play cricket at night on the embankment and now cricket pitches have all kind of bumps so I can't play cricket until they're gone.

"I cannot walk the dog or let the dog run across the field like normal."

A Nottingham City Council spokesperson said: “We have served the initial notice to leave and if they fail to adhere to the notice we will instruct bailiffs to carry out an eviction.

“Community Protection Officers will be patrolling the area whilst the group remain.”
