Travellers issued with warning over horses

Travellers have received a warning following reports of horses at their Winterbourne site.

In a statement on its website, South Gloucestershire Council referred to "increased reports" of horses at Northwood Park.

The council owns and manages the socially rented traveller site off Old Gloucester Road, where horses are not permitted.

The statement reads: "All occupiers have received a written warning concerning breaches of the site rules during ‘lockdown’ and when circumstances permit, officers shall be taking appropriate action against those responsible."

The update acknowledges "the level of concern expressed by local residents".

It continues: "At present, the traveller unit comprises a single officer working alone.

"Her work and that of all of the council’s services is significantly stretched with collective efforts concentrating on those who are most vulnerable.

"We continue to hope that in the current circumstances, members of the public will recognise the challenges officers are faced with.

"At present, responding individually to these reports and addressing the behaviours complained about cannot be given priority over other critical decision making and acute resource management in the council."

A council spokesman told Bristol Live: "We are continuing to monitor the situation."
