Traveller camp pitches up on Eastville Park with 10 vehicles

Travellers have set up camp on Eastville Park.

Six caravans, a truck, two vans and a car are parked on the grass at the edge of the sports pitch today (August 30).

Eastville Park, which often attracts traveller camps, was last occupied in early July.

Around 10 caravans, two horse boxes, 3 SUVs and two vans were on the site last month, before Bristol City Council secured a possession order.

A council spokesperson said at the time: "We have visited the occupants who have confirmed they are not prepared to move onto the Transit site, therefore a possession order is being processed."

Avon and Somerset Police say the council is leading the response to the latest encampment.

An admin of the Friends of Eastville Park group posted on Facebook yesterday: "As many will already know,a group of travellers have arrived in the park.

"The responsibilty for management of the situation lies with Bristol City Council and Avon & Somerset Police. Any reports or comments should be directed to either of them as appropriate."

Update: In a statement issued on September 1, a council spokesman said: "The site was visited by officers over the weekend and was vacated today."
