CROMWELL, Conn. _ Jason Day entered the second-round of the Travelers Championship living life on the cut line at even par. With the low scores players can shoot at TPC River Highlands, par, and even 1- and 2-under, often aren't enough to make it to Saturday.
He saved himself _ and then some _ with a field-best 7-under, which catapulted him into a tie for sixth place.
"It wasn't too different to what I did yesterday," Day said. "But to be able to turn it around and still play very similar golf to what I did yesterday, but just capitalize on the opportunity I had.
Ranked 18th in the world, Day hasn't been entirely happy with his performance this year. Despite five top-10 finishes, he noted that he and his caddie, Steve Williams, are equally focused. The two hit the putting green and driving range after Thursday's first-round to work out some of the kinks in his game.
"Pretty much when (Williams) asks you to do something you pretty much do it," Day said. "I went and chipped some, I hit balls on the range, and then I putted ... he's very black and white."
Day played bogey free through driving rain, and birdied seven holes. He noted that despite an even-par finish on Thursday, he felt he played better than the score reflected.
"I think I only missed a few greens and maybe a few fairways," Day said. "Very similar to what I had yesterday."
