This Morning travel expert Simon Calder issues huge passport and EHIC warning due to Brexit

Travel expert Simon Calder has issued a huge warning to Brits about passports and EHICs as he Brexit transition period nears it ends.

While Simon was principally back on This Morning on Tuesday to talk about people dreaming of booking a holiday next year after news of a coronavirus vaccine, he issued some timely advice about the effect Brexit will have on our trip abroad from the start of next year.

Speaking to hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, he said: "All sorts of things that you took for granted will end.

"Be really careful about your passport validity Your passport might say 'I'm valid for another year but, actually under rules which will come into play you might find it is not valid because it was issued more than 9 years and 6 months ago."

Simon added that there is an online Passport Checker provided by the Government which also you to find out if yours is still valid and then moving onto European Health Insurance Cards he had some bad news, telling the presenting pair and viewers at home: "Your European Health Insurance card will NOT cover you anymore.

"It will if you're travelling out before the New Year and coming back afterwards but, beyond that you're going to need proper health insurance in place."

Simon then issued a further warning about driving licences for driving abroad, explaining: "Driving licenses, you'll probably need one maybe two international driving permits and you've to sort out a green card for your insurance.

"So any awful lot to bear in mind."
