Trashed BMW and van arson could be linked to Halewood shooting

A smashed up BMW and a van set alight could be linked to shots fired at a car in Halewood.

Police are now investigating whether the three incidents are linked after they happened within 24 hours of the shooting.

The BMW was found surrounded in shattered glass with all its windows smashed on Roseheath Drive , when it was found on Tuesday afternoon, just streets from where the shooting happened.

Meanwhile a van was set alight in the same street as the shooting, on Blakeacre Road and may also be linked to the shooting , say Merseyside Police.

Police were initially called to reports of shots fired at a parked car on Blakeacre Road , around 7pm last night and witnesses told the ECHO they heard "three or four" shots.

One woman said she “wasn’t even shocked” when she heard the reports of gunshots.

She added: “It’s shocking round here at the minute and people just don’t care about the community at all.

"If they did, they wouldn’t be doing this on a busy street in the middle of the evening.”

The road was cordoned off four hours while forensics teams combed the area.

Police are continuing to make CCTV and witness enquiries and have asked anyone to come forward with information.

Detective Chief Inspector Craig Sumner of Merseydise Police said: “We are keeping an open mind as to whether these incidents are linked, as we investigate the circumstances around the shooting.

I would encourage anyone with information or who witnessed the shooting or these vehicles being damaged to come forward and we will take action.

“Officers will be in the area today to provide reassurance and speak to the community. We understand that those who live locally may be alarmed by these incidents and I want to reassure them that if people tell us what they know, either directly or anonymously, we can remove those responsible from the streets."
