Transport police search vile yobs who attacked and spat on rail staff in Lanarkshire

Cops are hunting vile yobs who attacked and spat on staff at a Scots train station.

The incident happened on Sunday, February 27, on the 3.55pm service from East Kilbride to Glasgow Central.

A group of youths began 'harassing and verbally abusing' the female train conductor.

The group followed her onto the platform at Hairmyres Station when the train arrived, around 4pm.

Cops say they continued shouting and swearing at her before it escalated. Members of the group pushed the woman, while two teen boys spat at her.

The conductor walked away but a teen girl followed her and continued verbally abusing her.

The group consisted of around five or six teenagers, between the ages of 14-16.

The first male is described as white, of slim build and wearing a grey hoody with tracksuit bottoms.

The second had a round face, of slim build and with short dark hair, wearing a dark tracksuit.

The third had tanned skin, a slim build, with dark eyes and wearing a dark tracksuit with grey on it.

The fourth was a white male of slim build, with short dark hair, wearing a white and navy tracksuit top and bottoms.

The female from the group is described as white, with a slim build, and had dark hair in a ponytail. At the time of the incident she was wearing a white and grey long-sleeved top.

Officers are have launched an appeal for information following the incident.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "Witnesses, or anyone with information, can contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 320 of 27/02/22.

"Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
