Transformation begins at Nottingham's newest bar The Blind Rabbit

A Grade II listed building in the heart of Nottingham is set to be transformed into a New York style dive bar.

The Blind Rabbit will be opening at Weekday Cross, in the property which used to be Belgian beer and mussels restaurant Belgo and before that La Tasca, serving tapas.

Work is now underway to style the two floors into a laid back hangout for food and drink, including original cocktails.

"It is influenced by New York dive bars and is aiming to do the best burger in Nottingham," said brand development and marketing manager Martyn Cooling.

Describing it as the "most beautiful building we've ever got our hands on," and "their new baby", the creative minds at Fletchergate Industries will be responsible for the brand new look.

They are the brains behind some of Nottingham's coolest bars including The Hockley Arts Club, Das Kino, Penny Lane and The Magic Garden.

Belgo stopped trading in March 2020 since the start of the pandemic and failed to reopen in July when lockdown was lifted after the owners, the Casual Dining Group, called in the administrators.

An opening date for The Blind Rabbit has yet to be determined. "Instead of a deadline we are working as fast as we can and when done we will get open," added Mr Cooling.

The owners are also set to open another new venture called The Beeston Social near the new Arc Cinema as part of Beeston Square's £50m redevelopment.
