Transfer news, rumours - LIVE: Paul Pogba tells Manchester United he wants to leave, Kepa and Mateo Kovacic to Chelsea, Jack Grealish to Spurs plus Arsenal, Liverpool and latest gossip

The Premier League's summer transfer window is nearly at an end with Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham still set to spend big before Thursday's deadline.

Liverpool have been this summer's biggest spenders with no fewer than four new arrivals so far. Goalkeeper Alisson is the headline-grabber with the Reds shelling out a world-record fee for the Brazilian. Nabil Fekir won't be joining him though after an 11th hour U-turn earlier in the window. Manchester United have a couple of new faces but Jose Mourinho wants at least one more before the window shuts. Tottenham's Toby Alderweireld is his No 1 target but could a late move for Bayern Munich's Jerome Boateng or Leicester's Harry Maguire be easier to get over the line? And what of Paul Pogba? Could he be a shock exit as the clock ticks down?

Champions Manchester City have their eyes on one more addition too despite their all-too-comfortable Community Shield win over Chelsea to start their season. For the Blues they need more than just one more with a number of targets in place with outgoings in the form of Thibaut Courtois and Eden Hazard not out the question too as the clock ticks down.

We will have all the latest news, views, rumours, gossip and done deals right here so don't touch that dial.

Arsenal will not be reigniting their interest in Cristian Pavón ahead of tomorrow’s transfer deadline, although the Argentina international could be allowed to leave for the Premier League after Boca Juniors’ Copa Libertadores campaign.

The 22-year-old forward has been persistently linked with a move away from Boca this summer, with both Arsenal and Romainterested in bringing him to Europe.

However sources close to the player have told The Independent that Pavón will remain at Boca beyond this summer’s transfer window, as the club attempt to win their seventh Copa Libertadores title.

Aston Villa are in pole position to sign John McGinn despite renewed interest from Celtic, according to Hibernian head coach Neil Lennon.

Hibs midifielder McGinn spent Tuesday in talks with Aston Villa but Celtic are believed to have matched the Championship club's offer after having several previous bids rejected.

Lennon said: "He went down to Birmingham, I think he is having a medical there. A fee has been agreed. I don't know if personal terms have been agreed yet.

"I think Celtic have matched the offer but I think Villa are in the driving position at the minute."

Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty has joined Shrewsbury on a season-long loan.

Docherty made 14 appearances for Rangers after joining from Hamilton in January, but found himself on the fringes as Steven Gerrard revamped his squad.

The 21-year-old is thought to have a long-term future at Ibrox, but will spend the 2018-19 season in Sky Bet League One after agreeing a temporary stay at New Meadow.

MANCHESTER UNITED NEWS
16:00

Wayne Rooney believes Manchester United need to make two more signings before they can challenge rivals City for the Premier League title.

United finished second last season but ended up 19 points adrift of Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola’s men hitting the 100-point mark in a historic season for the club.

Despite being linked to numerous players this season, United have only brought in Diogo Dalot from Porto and Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk.

Following the conclusion of the World Cup, United have yet to make a single signing with manager Jose Mourinho growing increasingly frustrated at his club’s lack of transfer activity.

And Rooney, who now plays for DC United, has said his former club must make an additional two signings if they’re to stand any chance of challenging for the title.

CHELSEA NEWS

Olivier Giroud has revealed that he has spoken to his international team-mate Nabil Fekir about joining him at Chelsea.

The Frenchman was on the verge of completing a £53m transfer to Liverpool in June only to see the move collapse because of concerns over his fitness.

Fekir had agreed personal terms on a five-year contract and even held an introductory interview with LFCTV before the club pulled the plug on his transfer.

And Giroud has said that he has since spoken to the 25-year-old about moving to Stamford Bridge instead.

WOLVES NEWS
15:00
Wolves are interested in Manchester United’s Marcos Rojo, as they continue their lavish summer expenditure.

While the Argentine has been one of Jose Mourinho’s more trusted centre-halves, his injury record has seen him play less than the manager would like over two years, and the club does need to sell to facilitate moves elsewhere.

Centre-half is one of the two areas that the United boss is insistent on improving before the transfer window closes, with Toby Alderweireld still the top option, so he is thereby likely to be open to the sale of Rojo.

David Luiz believes Kepa Arrizabalaga will live up to his world-record transfer fee after agreeing a £71m move to Chelsea.

With Thibaut Courtois set to leave for Real Madrid, Kepa will now step in to fill the Belgian’s place at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have agreed to pay the goalkeeper’s release clause at Athletic Club after brief negotiations between the two clubs. At £71m, Kepa becomes the world’s most expensive goalkeeper.

And David Luiz insists the 23-year-old is exactly the kind of goalkeeper the club needs to challenge for silverware in the future.

“He is a great keeper, that is why everybody is talking about him,” Luiz told reporters. “The financial side – every club in the world spends money, not just Chelsea.

“The numbers don’t matter, we are happy because Chelsea are always doing the best for the club.

“When you play for Chelsea you have to think about titles, it doesn’t matter the name of the competition. We have to always try to win.

“That has to be the mentality of every single player when you play for a big club like Chelsea. We are going to fight for that.”

Arsene Wenger is in contention to become manager of Japan's national team, according to the Daily Mail.

Since leaving the Gunners after 22 years, the Frenchman has been linked with Real Madrid and Paris St Germain.

However, with at least Real now ruled out, speculation over an advance by the Japan FA has emerged.

Several Chinese clubs are also said to fancy the 68-year-old, who reportedly rejected a £30million offer to go to the Far East two years ago.

Barcelona have sealed a deal for Moussa Wague after he impressed with Senegal at the World Cup.

Barcelona have paid Belgian club Eupen £4.5m for the 19-year-old fullback. Wague signed a five-year contract, which includes a £90m release clause.

Wague played in all three of Senegal's matches in Russia and became the youngest African scorer in tournament history when he netted in the 2-2 draw against Japan.

Wague will initially join Barcelona's B team.

Anthony Martial's future looks destined to be away from Manchester United.

LEICESTER NEWS

Leicester City are considering the possibility of taking Danny Drinkwater back from Chelsea, after just a year at Stamford Bridge.

Drinkwater moved to London for £35m on deadline day last summer, in what seemed a panic buy, but the midfielder went on to make only a handful of appearances for Chelsea across the 2017/18 season.

Chelsea are now looking to reshape the side with Maurizio Sarri in place, and bring in players more suited to his style, particularly in midfield.

MANCHESTER UNITED NEWS
13:30
Toby Alderweireld is still Jose Mourinho’s first choice for a Manchester United centre-half this summer, with the expectation now that the pursuit will go right to the wire.

A deal so far has not happened due to the fact Tottenham would prefer Anthony Martial included in any negotiation, or for United to at the very least meet a hardline valuation of £55m.

The Old Trafford hierarchy have so far been reluctant to do either, with some of that influenced by Alderweireld’s desire to leave and an expectation that might yet change the situation or force Spurs’ hands.

With CEO Daniel Levy so far predictably unbending, though, it has led United to look at alternative options.

Leicester City’s Harry Maguire is chief among those, while the club have also been looking at Internazionale’s Milan Skriniar, among a few other potential fall-backs.

Jerome Boateng won't be one of them after he rejected the chance to move to Old Trafford.

EVERTON NEWS
13:10

Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye is relishing the prospect of working with new signing Lucas Digne and said the left back had all the qualities to be successful in the Premier League.

Digne, who joined Everton from Spanish champions Barcelona last week, is well known to Gueye from their time playing in the French Ligue 1 for Lille.

"He is a good young player and hopefully he will show what he can do in our team," he said.

"He is a really strong left back and his standout feature is the quality of his defending. It is tough to dribble past him. He is very good at one-on-one defending."

Barcelona are prepared to embark on a ‘Philippe Coutinho style’ campaign to eventually prise Paul Pogba away from Manchester United, if they cannot sign the French World Cup star in this window.

The Spanish champions will continue what is a hardening pursuit of the 25-year-old to try and get him this August, but with Manchester United definitively refusing to sell the player and just a day of the Premier League purchase window left, Barca are looking to the medium term.

They may well employ a similar strategy to securing Coutinho, after he did not go to Camp Nou from Liverpool last summer, but did eventually move in January.

MANCHESTER CITY NEWS
12:50

Pep Guardiola does not expect Manchester City to make any further signings before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

Riyad Mahrez arrived at the Etihad from Leicester City in a club record £60m deal earlier this summer, but City have otherwise failed to add major reinforcements to their first-team squad.

City missed out on primary midfield target Jorginho, who chose to reunite with former Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea.

Philippe Sandler, a young defender from PEC Zwolle, and Claudio Gomes, a teenage midfielder from Paris Saint-Germain, are the only new arrivals in addition to Mahrez.

Guardiola admitted after Sunday’s Community Shield that City lack an alternative to Fernandinho at the base of midfield, but now believes further signings are unlikely.
