Transfer interest in Nottingham Forest defender emerges amid uncertainty over future

Nottingham Forest defender Richie Laryea is said to have interest from a number of clubs ahead of a potential loan move.

The 27-year-old has struggled to break into the side after joining the Reds from Toronto in January. He has featured just five times so far, with only one of those appearances coming in the starting XI.

Djed Spence and Max Lowe were regulars at right and left wing-back last season, while midfielder Jack Colback filled in for the latter when he was out injured. Forest will look to strengthen in those positions this summer, with the two loanees having returned to their parent clubs.

That leaves uncertainty over Laryea’s future, with a loan switch a possibility. There is interest from clubs in Belgium, the Netherlands and in the Championship, according to Canadian outlet TSN. The Canada international is said to be keen on a move which would secure regular game time ahead of the World Cup later this year.

After Laryea made his debut in the Garibaldi, in the 4-0 win over West Bromwich Albion in April, head coach Steve Cooper said: “He’s a really, really good guy. Calm, relaxed, has bought into what we are doing. His family are over here. He’s completely engaged.

“And he’s taken not playing as much as he would have liked - none of them take it well - but he’s taken it professionally. I’ve explained to him, the situation, and he accepts it.

“He’s part of what we’re doing here. He’s part of the squad. If he’s called upon, I’m sure he’ll be doing everything he can to make sure he’s as ready as he can be.”
