Transfer case to CBI or let sitting judge probe it, demands BJP MLA

HYDERABAD: Alleging that the Telangana police are trying to dilute the minor girl's rape case and protect relatives of people in power, BJP Telangana has demanded that the case be transferred to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or should be probed by a sitting judge. The CBI will unravel the facts and send a strong message that such incidents would not be tolerated and culprits, however, big they may be, will be punished as per law, the party added.

Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, BJP MLA M Raghunandan Rao said that an MIM MLA's son was involved in the alleged gang-rape and some of the accused have already fled to other countries, including the UAE (Dubai), to escape from the arrest.

Showing some CCTV footage clips of the car, in which the alleged incident happened, to the media, the Dubbak MLA leader said they have evidence that the MLA's son was also involved in the crime. He said he would hand over the evidence, including the footage to police and court. Raghunandan said police seized only one car, while the incident allegedly occurred in an Innova. Also, the Benz car was registered in the name of the MLA's sister.

"How minors were allowed into the pub against rules and police did not look into issues like who booked the pub for the event," the BJP MLA said.

BJP state leaders N Ramachander Rao, general secretary Bangaru Shruthi and ex MLA NVSS Prabhakar met DGP M Mahender Reddy and submitted a representation asking for a CBI probe. They said though the incident had happened on May 27, police took five days to register an FIR that raises suspicion that there was an attempt to obfuscate facts.

They said police had named an aide of a government functionary, but there were reports about the alleged involvement of the son of a sitting MLA from MIM.

The leaders alleged that it was unfortunate that Hyderabad was increasingly becoming haven for such incidents.

"Things are happening due to the laxity of the police force in auditing pubs and restaurants, which have become haven for fissiparous tendencies," he added.
