Tranmere fans rally round to help make Ghanaian fan's dream come true

A fundraiser was launched to help a Tranmere Rovers fan make the trip of a lifetime to Prenton Park from his native Ghana.

Iddrisu Ismael won the hearts of the Super White Army for his enthusiasm for the Wirral club - which is more than 5,000 miles from his home.

Now fellow Tranmere supporter Richard Davies has launched a fundraiser for the £3,000 needed to pay for Iddrisu's trip to see Tranmere play, once current restrictions allow.

This would be to cover the cost of two plane tickets, a hotel for a week, and some spending money.

Iddrisu, 22, is a keen footballer himself and his social media feed is filled with posts proclaiming his love for the League Two side.

Tranmere supporters and the club have already sent him shirts and club memorabilia to his home in the West African state.

Richard has been messaging Ghanaian charities and the Ghanaian High Commission to get some help and support for the campaign.

He said: "Iddrisu's positivity about the club is really brilliant. He follows the games on social media and knows all the players by name.

"The idea of trying to bring him over here to watch a game started as a joke, but since then it's really taken off.

"I speak to him regularly. He's humble and says if he does come over here, it'll be God's will.

"He was so made up to receive the Tranmere shirt. It was like Christmas morning for him."

Iddrisu has said his love for the club stemmed from the way they helped their local community during the coronavirus pandemic.

He said: "This is more than a club, it's a family. I need to be a part of this beautiful family."
