CHENNAI: A 'Capacity Building Programme for Police Officers on Prevention of Counterfeiting and Smuggling' was organized by FICCI's Committee Against Smuggling and Counterfeiting Activities Destroying the Economy (CASCADE).
Additional Director General of Police Dr A Amalraj, who is Director, Tamil Nadu Police Academy said, "Police are directly involved in stopping the circulation of illicit goods in the society."
Such products are harmful for consumers and incur huge losses to the government exchequer. Former special commissioner of police, New Delhi Deep Chand, also advisor for FICCI CASCADE said a recent study by FICCI CASCADE showed that in the 2018-19 Indian economy saw a loss of 1,17,253 crore and loss of 16.36 livelihood opportunities due to smuggling in five key sectors.
