MASUDA, Shimane Prefecture -- The city of Masuda, scheduled to host pre-Games training camps for Ireland's cycling road teams for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, will be making polo shirts designed with the country's tricolor national flag in mind to encourage support for the Irish teams.
The shirts, available in green, white or orange, are each adorned with a shamrock -- Ireland's national flower -- on the breast pocket, a bicycle logo and the words "CYCLE CITY MASUDA" and "2020" on the back.
The Masuda municipal government plans to produce 400 shirts in total, which will come in seven sizes.
"We hope that many people will wear the shirts, so that we can boost the momentum for hosting the Irish athletes," said an official of the municipal government's division to promote the Games training camps.
The shirts will be on sale for 2,000 yen each, including tax, from early May. They will also be available for pre-order by reservation from the end of this month through April 10.
