Trainee teacher beats students, gets arrested in Himachal Pradesh

MANALI: A young trainee teacher of Government Middle School, Shamshi, in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district was arrested on Saturday for brutally beating all Class VII students with a stick and wire for making noise. The parents of the injured students had complained to the school management committee president Kashmir Singh Rana on Friday, following which the latter filed a police complaint. Police have booked the teacher under Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act and 323 of IPC.

According to the students, two-three girls in the front row were making a noise for which the teacher punished all the 20 students in the class. Some students alleged that the teacher had even threatened them against disclosing the incident to anybody, saying he would beat them outside the school as well if they did so.

According to police officials, Pranav Sharma had joined the school on a one-month internship. His mother Mamta Devi is also a trained graduate teacher in the same school.

Kullu SSP Gurdev Sharma said, “Mamta Devi had her mathematics class but she sent her son instead. Pranav beat all the students with a stick and a piece of wire for making noise in the class.”
