Train drivers’ union issues warning to rail industry over members’ toilet facilities

Train drivers ' union Aslef is demanding improved toilet facilities and breaks for its members, citing health concerns due to industry inaction.
This call comes a year after the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) urged rail operators to enhance staff welfare provisions, including proper facilities.
Aslef's 'Dignity for Drivers' report in November 2024 highlighted the lack of adequate toilet access and time for drivers during their shifts.
The ORR's recent annual report noted 'uneven progress' and a slowdown in industry momentum regarding welfare improvements.
Aslef's general secretary, Dave Calfe, stated the union has put the rail industry 'on notice,' warning of consequences if promises for better conditions are not met.
