Train derailed in Aberdeenshire as emergency services race to ongoing incident amid reported injuries

A train has derailed in the north-east of Scotland amid reports of an engine fire and passengers being injured.

Emergency crews have rushed to the scene of the stricken train in Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire around 9.45am this morning.

Police, fire crews and ambulances are all in attendance.

Many services have been halted today due to the poor weather, which is causing widespread flooding to the north of the country.

Reports suggest the train has 'fallen down an embankment'.

"We were called at 9.43am, and are on scene alongside paramedics and the fire brigade."

A ScotRail spokesman said: “We’re assisting the emergency services with an incident near Stonehaven, and will provide more information when available.”
