Tragic Paisley woman's memory honoured as golf event raises thousands for charity

A memorial day in honour of tragic Paisley woman Danielle McKee, who died at just 23 years old, was held recently.

Danielle, who worked at the deli counter in Morrisons at Anchor Mills, passed away just two days after being diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in November 2017.

She was born with DiGeorge Syndrome which can cause a range of lifelong health problems. The former Gleniffer High School pupil was hailed a “miracle baby” when she was born.

She was delivered with two holes in her heart – one the size of a 20p piece. Her parents were told her weakened immune system meant even a kiss could be fatal.

But Danielle grew stronger and developed into a fun-loving girl who loved jetting off to exotic destinations.

However, in 2017, she died suddenly following her diagnosis. Since that dreadful day, Danielle’s family have done their utmost to keep her memory alive and support Max Appeal, a charity that helps families of children diagnosed with DiGeorge Syndrome to help them live independent lives.

They’ve made it their mission to ensure she’s not forgotten and, in the process, raise some much-needed funds for charity.

The latest fundraiser Danielle’s parents, Angela and Craig McKee, both 54, organised in aid of the charity took place at Elderslie Golf Club and saw 26 teams, totalling 104 golfers, attend.

They’ve held a golf event every year since 2017 except 2020 due to covid but this year was one of the best-attended. Golfers purchased raffle tickets for a variety of prizes that had been donated to the McKee family.

Angela said: “The generosity of everyone donating really means the world to us and showing their support to myself, Craig and Craig Junior every year in memory of our girl Danielle and raising funds for Max Appeal, the charity close to our hearts.”

She is still totting up the total donations received but she’s hoping that at least £5,000 was raised.

And the family’s fundraising will continue next month with a sponsored cycle ride around Millport accompanied by Danielle’s friends. Craig will also be taking part in the Edinburgh Kiltwalk on September 17.

DiGeorge is a condition that affects one in 4,000 children, with the disease attacking the body’s defences. The Max Appeal supports people and their families affected by the rare condition.
