Traffic brought to standstill as locomotive gets stuck on Northumberland village road

Drivers were caught by surprise when traffic in a coastal Northumberland village was brought to a standstill on Tuesday morning.

Queues stretched in both directions on the A1068, also known as the Northumberland Coastal Route, as a truck got stuck on a tight right angled corner next to Warkworth Castle.

But what really drew attention was its cargo - a locomotive.

Northumbria Police were alerted to the situation, but the lorry had already become 'unstuck' before they attended.

Before it could be moved, pictures were taken of the bright yellow locomotive which was being transported through the village.

Warkworth residents are no stranger to traffic problems at this particular bend in the shadow of its famed castle.

In April this year, a HGV needed the assistance of passers-by and Northumbria Police to continue on its journey.

The nearest train stations to Warkworth are Alnmouth and Acklington, both of which are more than three miles away.
