Residents of a Tradeston flat block have launched a campaign to oust their factoring company who they claim have allowed the building to fall into disrepair.
MXM factoring has been accused of ignoring a petition signed by 250 residents demanding that they fix longstanding repair issues at the Kingston Quay development.
Following a visit to the Wallace Street flats from a local fire brigade, it was found that there were faulty lifts, hazardous fire doors, broken ceiling tiles and exposed electrics in the building that have been ignored by the factors.
A group of residents have now joined forces with tenants union Living Rent to push for MXM to be replaced, branding their efforts to fix the faults as 'too little too late'.
Earlier this month, different home-owners and tenants started sending coordinated complaints to MXM every five hours, culminating in collective action. They also displayed posters outside their window showing that the factoring company is no longer welcome in the development.
Residents are calling for a meeting with all owners of the properties to vote MXM out, and are looking for an MSP or councillor to oversee the transfer.
Once a solution to the factoring issue has been found in the buildings described as 'luxury apartments', Kingston Quay residents have vowed to focus their efforts on building a community garden and strong residents association in the Tradeston area.
One resident, who asked not to be named, said the state of the building has 'gone downhill' since MXM took over, with covid making the situation even worse.
They said: "MXM has taken advantage of the fact that the building was run down, but the issues are all in the communal areas so it's not the resident's faults. We're paying to live here and for a factoring service, we deserve to be able to feel safe in our property.
"What are we paying for if not for the upkeep of the building? We just want the building to be as beautiful as it should be and our complaints are being ignored. MXM refuse to speak with us.
"I think because a lot of the residents here are young, they don't know their rights as tenants but since lockdown, we've all started talking and discovered we're all facing the same issues."
Another resident added: “We’ve been failed by our factors MXM. Through years of failing to address basic and easily rectifiable issues, MXM are now steering us into a building that will be no longer be habitable. The residents of Wallace Street have now come together to stand up and force MXM to either seriously up their game or get out. The building has fantastic potential. We need MXM to realise this potential as much as the residents and owners do. It’s time to for MXM to act.”
MXM have been approached for comment.
