People living in Merseyside are lucky to have the best of everything nearby.
The city itself is booming with amazing restaurants, vibrant bars, cinemas, shops and even two cathedrals. But if you want to while away some time in nature, you don't have to go far.
Often named one of the country's best beaches, Formby Beach is a stunning stretch of golden sand. The beach stretches for miles, with its iconic sand dunes, and hundreds of acres of woodland beside it.

Day-trippers from near and far flock to the beach on sunny days. And the town itself has its own microclimate, which is where it gets the nickname the "Formby Bubble".
It can often be raining in Southport and Liverpool, while Formby is bathed in sunshine. This is because coastal town has what is known as a maritime climate or oceanic climate.
This essentially gives the town milder seasons, or "better weather" depending on whether you prefer cold or warmth. It very rarely snows, although it did very briefly earlier this week, with the last significant snowfall in Formby being some 12 years ago.
It was during the evening of Friday, December 17, 2010, that snow last fell heavily in Formby. At some points, it was two feet thick across Formby, from the beach to the bypass.
