Towie's Diags could face hefty £10,000 fine as he's accused of flouting lockdown rules

Towie star James 'Diags' Bennewith could be facing a hefty fine after being accused of flouting Tier 2 lockdown rules by attending a house party in Essex on Saturday night.

The reality TV regular, 29, was pictured mixing with revellers at the bash and dancing just hours after the new rules came into force in the county.

Essex was among the areas which was plunged into the High alert category from midnight on Friday, which bans the mixing of households indoors unless they are within a social support bubble.

London and the majority of Essex, apart from Southend and Thurrock, now have to abide by the Tier 2 restrictions.

According to the Mail Online, the party was reported to police, who declined to take any action.

A source told the publication: "To see this level of partying and rule break just hours after the new Tier 2 regulations came in is disgusting...

"After attempting to report this rule break, the Metropolitan Police responded by saying: 'We are focusing on breaches that are happening now.

''We do not need you to tell us about breaches that happened in the past.'"

The bash is believed to have been a birthday party and featured a DJ playing tunes for guests.

Videos and pictures posted on social media appear to show more than 10 people in attendance, while Diags was seen dancing.

According to The Sun, the celebrations started at Hainault Golf Club in Chigwell, Essex on Saturday night before revellers went back to an afterparty at a friend's house nearby.

The party is said to have continued until around 7am on Sunday morning.

It is now known exactly how many people attended the house party, but those found of have held or been involved in holding a rule-breaking gathering of more than 30 can face fines of up to £10,000.

Mirror Online has contacted a representative for Diags for comment.
