A tourist from Hong Kong has fallen to his death while taking pictures at the Grand Canyon.

According to officials at the tourist attraction in the US state of Arizona, the man was taking pictures at the Canyon when he stumbled over the edge and fell.

David Leibowitz, a spokesperson for the Eagle Point observation area, said a helicopter recovered the body of the victim from 1,000ft below the rim. An investigation has been launched.

The man, in his late 50s, was part of a tour group visiting Grand Canyon West, Mr Leibowitz added.

It is the second fatality at the Grand Canyon this week.

On Tuesday, a visitor died near the South Rim. The body was found in a wooded area.

The cause of death is not yet clear but the National Park Service and the Coconino County medical examiner are conducting an investigation.

The person’s relatives had not yet been notified, park spokesperson Vanessa Ceja-Cervantes said.

With nearly 6.4 million visitors last year, the Grand Canyon National Park is one of the most popular tourist destinations in America.

Grand Canyon West is an area of the site owned and operated by the Hualapai Indian tribe and gets about 1 million visitors annually.
