Tottenham’s summer signings star in pre-season penalty shootout win over Sydney FC

  • Tottenham beat Sydney FC on penalties after their pre-season friendly ended in a 1-1 draw on Wednesday.
  • The match, which is part of the Sydney Super Cup, saw Tottenham take the lead just before the half hour mark thanks to a brilliant Mathys Tel free-kick.
  • However, Sydney FC fought back to equalise in the 54th minute through Takehiro Sekine as the game went to penalties.
  • Tottenham’s summer signings Sandro Tonali and Andy Robertson both coverted their spot-kicks, while Jamie Donley was the only Spurs player to miss his penalty.
  • It was left to Dane Scarlett to score the winning penalty, as Tottenham secured a 4-2 shootout win, after previously winning pre-season games against MK Dons and Auckland FC earlier this month.
