Tottenham vs Dortmund: Harry Kane reserves special praise for Jan Vertonghen after 'unreal' Spurs win

Harry Kane praised his Tottenham team-mates for their stunning second-half display against Borussia Dortmund as three goals after the break saw Spurs swung the Champions League last-16 tie firmly in their favour.

Spurs were second best in the first half, but put that right after the break as goals from Heung-min Son, Jan Vertonghen and Fernando Llorente secured a thrilling 3-0 first-leg victory at Wembley.

It will take some capitulation in Dortmund on March 5 for them not to make it through to the last eight, on a night where Kane and Dele Alli should be back in the fold.

Kane - who has been out of action for Spurs since sustaining ankle ligament damage against Manchester United on 13 January - took to Twitter soon after full-time on Wednesday night to praise the performance from Mauricio Pochettino's side.

Kanew wrote: "Unreal second half from the whole team!" before hailing Vertonghen in particular for a display which saw the defender become a marauding left wing-back in the second half with a goal and an assist to his name.

After the match, Jan Vertonghen told BT Sport: "They looked very strong and had the better of the game but in the second half we were able to turn it around.

"They dropped off a bit then that early goal in the second half helped. We had the confidence to keep going.

"It was [my first goal] since the first game this season and I had to wait for goal line technology then so I was happy that I could just go [to celebrate this time]!

"It was at Wembley too in the Champions League so it was special. It was one of those nights.

"We were able to keep them quiet in the second half and they weren't able to be clinical. The game changed in the second half definitely."
