Tottenham vs Bournemouth LIVE: Premier League result, latest updates and reaction after Spurs lose

Tottenham vs Bournemouth LIVE - (AFP via Getty Images)

Tottenham vs Bournemouth LIVE

Tottenham have seen their 100 per cent winning record in the Premier League this season broken by Bournemouth. Evanilson’s goal proved to be the difference between the two sides in north London, although the hosts can count themselves rather fortunate to not have lost by a greater margin as the Cherries spurned many opportunities.

Spurs’ new £51million signing Xavi Simons was presented to supporters before kick-off, helping to improve the pre-match atmosphere inside the stadium. The mood was positive. After all, they went into the game on the back of wins over Burnley and Manchester City to start the season, though they produced their worst performance so far under new head coach Thomas Frank.

Tottenham had a chance to salvage an undeserved point in the closing stages, but second half substitute Destiny Udogie - making his first appearance of the season following injury - headed wide to consign Frank to his first league defeat in charge. Follow the game back below with our dedicated match blog, featuring expert insight and analysis from Matt Verri at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium!

Tottenham player ratings

17:13 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Pedro Porro 4

Miserable afternoon against Antoine Semenyo. Caught out of position several times, poor from crossing positions and two fouls throws to cap off his worst display in a long time.

Cristian Romero 5

Unfortunate to deflect Evanilson’s shot over Vicario and into the net. Tried to rally his team-mates at times but struggled in his battle with Evanilson.

Micky van de Ven 7

Booked for late challenge early on but otherwise did his job better than anyone else in a Spurs shot. Brilliant challenge to block Tavernier’s shot and pace was important against a Bournemouth side keen to look in behind.

Matt Verri at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

16:26 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

A miracle this is still 1-0. Tavernier the latest Bournemouth player unable to take a big chance, firing into the side-netting.

Spurs are somehow still in this, but there's no sign of a comeback for now.

Tottenham 0-1 Bournemouth

16:25 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Loud, loud boos as Semenyo avoids a second yellow card. Brought down Richarlison as the forward tried to break down the right wing - Bournemouth man is very fortunate.

A minute into the second half and Bournemouth have picked up from where they left off. Semenyo again gets in behind Porro and it's Vicario to the rescue.

Frank's half-time team talk not having an immediate impact...

KICK-OFF!

16:05 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Back underway at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium!

A shot of any kind will be a massive improvement from the hosts.

Matt Verri at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

15:51 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Some boos from the Spurs fans at half-time. Bournemouth should really be two or three goals up, that was the worst half Spurs have produced under Frank. Not a single shot and a bit of a mess in defence.

HALF-TIME!

15:50 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Tottenham 0-1 Bournemouth

Evanilson's goal is the difference at the break, though the visitors should be further ahead.

Spurs yet to have a shot and jeered off.

Tottenham 0-1 Bournemouth

Tottenham 0-1 Bournemouth

15:42 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

40 min: Bournemouth know there is chances for them on the counter as Spurs push more numbers forward. On a couple of occasions, the final pass hasn’t been good enough.

Big warning for the hosts.

Tottenham 0-1 Bournemouth

15:38 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

37 min: Remarkably, Spurs are yet to have a shot.

Tottenham 0-1 Bournemouth

15:37 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

35 min: Kudus does well to evade two challenges, sets the ball back for Porro whose cross is cleared the the front post. Bournemouth look to counter but Scott halts his run knowing he was offside and Vicario clears the danger.

Matt Verri at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

15:33 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Frustration everywhere you look in the stadium. Home fans getting irritated with the panicky nature of their side's defending.

Frank then rushes onto the pitch to play the ball back for a free-kick and it's blocked by Brooks - Spurs boss stays on the pitch with his arms outstretched. All going Bournemouth's way.

Tottenham 0-1 Bournemouth

15:32 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

30 min: You do get the feeling Bournemouth will regret these missed chances. Spurs surely can’t be this poor for much longer.

Matt Verri at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

15:30 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Two fouls throws from Porro in the first 30 minutes of this match. He's also had a fairly miserable time of it up against Semenyo.

Tottenham 0-1 Bournemouth

15:30 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

28 min: Palhinha and Van de Ven combine to produce a fantastic block to deny Tavernier a goal.

Spurs on the ropes here!

Tottenham 0-1 Bournemouth

15:29 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

27 min: Spurs look like they’re in but the offside flag goes up early as Johnson made his run too soon.

Matt Verri at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

15:26 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Fair to say Frank and one of Iraola's assistants had a difference of opinion there over Spurs carrying on when Smith went down holding his hamstring.

Came to nothing but Bournemouth's coaches were furious

Tottenham 0-1 Bournemouth

15:26 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

24 min: It has not been Richarlison’s day so far. Senesi seems to be winning every duel against the Brazilian.

Injury blow for the visitors with Smith down on the ground.

Matt Verri at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

15:22 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Brooks is causing Spurs real problems. Pops up from a corner now and loops a header just over the bar.

Spurs have been really solid at the back under Frank so far but they look so shaky this afternoon. Bournemouth threatening with near enough every attack.

Tottenham 0-1 Bournemouth

15:22 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

20 min: Lovely body swerve from Scott and he is wiped out by Palhinha. However, the Spurs loanee avoids a yellow card and the Bournemouth captain is asking why.

Tottenham 0-1 Bournemouth

15:18 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

17 min: Porro is having issues with Semenyo and clips the winger in the Bournemouth half. No yellow card shown though.

Evanilson then loops a header wide.

Tottenham 0-1 Bournemouth

15:16 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

14 min: This is the first time Tottenham have been behind in a game under Thomas Frank.

Romero lucky to avoid a booking but that is due to his central defensive partner Van de Ven being cautioned for a foul on Brooks.

Matt Verri at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

15:12 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Should be 2-0. Stunning cross from Brooks and Semenyo got in front of Porro but couldn't keep the header down.

Home fans already starting to get a bit restless - although the mood is helped by Semenyo getting a ridiculously pointless yellow card for stopping Spurs take a free-kick... in their own half.

Tottenham 0-1 Bournemouth

15:12 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

10 min: Despite a bright start by Tottenham they are a little fortunate to only be 1-0 down.

Tottenham 0-1 Bournemouth

15:08 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

6 min: It should be 2-0 to Bournemouth but Evanilson drags his shot wide from the edge of the box.

Matt Verri at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

15:07 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Spurs had started decently but Bournemouth score with their first attack.

Thomas Frank sees his side concede in the Premier League for the first time. Spence slow to get out and he played Evanilson onside there.

GOAL! Tottenham 0-1 Bournemouth | Evanilson ‘4

15:06 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

4 min: What a start for Bournemouth as the stadium is stunned into silence thanks to Evanilson’s strike.

Tottenham 0-0 Bournemouth

15:03 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

1 min: Really bright start by Tottenham as Sarr runs beyond Johnson down the left and forces Petrovic to make a save before Scott makes a clearance.

Solanke absense explained

14:25 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Dominic Solanke has been left out of Tottenham’s squad to face Bournemouth due to an ankle issue, writes Matt Verri.

Thomas Frank named an unchanged starting lineup for the Cherries’ visit to north London, but Solanke is not among the substitutes as he has been for the first two Premier League matches of the season.

That same ankle issue has continued to hamper Solanke and Spurs have decided not to risk him against Bournemouth, with the striker now having the international break to try and return to full fitness.

We are expecting team news to be announced shortly.

Last time out

13:35 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Evanilson was on target against Tottenham in the corresponding fixture last season.

When Xavi Simons could make his Tottenham debut

13:30 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Xavi Simons will have to wait until after the international break to make his Tottenham debut.

Simons became Spurs’ latest summer signing on Friday when his £51million transfer from Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig was officially announced.

Although Spurs confirmed the signing of Simons before the Premier League showdown against Bournemouth at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the 22-year-old will not be involved.

For Simons to have been eligible to make his Tottenham bow as early as this weekend, he needed to have been registered by Friday’s (August 29, 2025) 12pm deadline.

As a result, the next opportunity for Thomas Frank to hand Simons a debut will come after the international break when Spurs take on London rivals West Ham away from home on Saturday, September 13, 2025.

Akanji to Tottenham?

13:25 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Thomas Frank has played down the need for Tottenham to sign a centre-back in the last few days of the transfer window.

Spurs were believed to be targeting three signings heading into the final week of the window and have ticked one of those off after Xavi Simons arrived from RB Leipzig for just over £51million.

The club are hoping to add another winger to the squad before Monday's deadline and a centre-back signing has also been on Spurs' agenda.

Standard Sport understands that there is interest in Manchester City's Manuel Akanji, but no formal bid has yet been made for the Swiss defender.

Frank reveals approach with Tottenham transfers

13:20 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Thomas Frank revealed he is “pretty direct” when talking to potential new signings, after Tottenham completed a deal of just over £51million for Xavi Simons.

The 22-year-old has arrived from RB Leipzig to end Spurs’ hunt for a No10, though the move was not wrapped up in time for him to feature against Bournemouth on Saturday.

It comes after Spurs missed out on Eberechi Eze last week, with Frank declaring afterwards that he was only interested in signing players who wanted to be at the club. As a boyhood Arsenal fan, Eze’s preference was always to join the Gunners.

Simons was believed to be open to joining Chelsea before Spurs moved quickly on Thursday to reach an agreement with Leipzig.

With the failed pursuits of other key targets this summer in mind, Frank was asked how he made certain over the phone that any incoming player was the right fit for Spurs.

Predicted Tottenham XI

13:15 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Richarlison is set to keep his place up front after a superb start to the season, while Brennan Johnson will hope scoring in both Premier League matches so far is enough to get the nod on the left wing.

The main decision for Frank comes in midfield. Lucas Bergvall is an option to come in if Frank wants more creativity, though the trio of Joao Palhinha, Rodrigo Bentancur and Pape Matar Sarr were hugely impressive against Manchester City.

Tottenham predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Spence; Palhinha, Sarr; Kudus, Bergvall, Johnson; Richarlison.
