Tottenham transfer rumours: Gedson loan to end, £5m Rodon saving, wonderkid rejects Spurs move

Tottenham Hotspur fans do not have long to wait until the January transfer window.

Whilst the domestic transfer window only shut last week, a quick turnaround between markets means there is just a little over two months until Spurs are able to sign players again.

With that in mind, here are the latest Spurs rumours.

Fernandes loan to end early

Record report that Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira has confirmed Gedson Fernandes' loan to Spurs could be cut short.

The two clubs are in talks over the midfielder's stay at North London coming to an end six months early in January.

Gedson moved to Spurs in January but has struggled for regular football, having failed to make the cut for their Europa League squad.

Spurs saved £5m on Rodon

Football Insider claim that Spurs pushed down the price of Joe Rodon by £5m after refusing to meet Swansea City's asking price.

Spurs sealed a deal for the Wales international on domestic deadline day for £11m with £4m of performance-related add-ons.

Swansea tried to hold firm on their valuation of £16m but were forced to accept £5m less, with Daniel Levy refusing to go any higher.

Flatman explains rejection

Callum Flatman has told the Edinburgh Evening News why he rejected Spurs in the summer.

The 16-year-old went on trial to Spurs in the summer but instead opted to join Scottish Championship side Hearts.

Flatman said: "I went down for a week's trial at Spurs.

"I went down and tried it but I decided on Hearts. I think this is a better club for me to progress. There is more likelihood of me getting into the first team here.

"I’ve signed a professional contract here but in England you don’t get that until you’re 18. I think everyone in my family was kind of rooting for England because it was a bigger club but we realised it’s not about moving early."

Sheffield United want Brooks

The Sheffield Star report that Chris Wilder is keen to bring David Brooks back to Sheffield United.

Bournemouth playmaker Brooks has previously been linked with a move to Spurs but the Blades are keen for him to return to Bramall Lane after his 2018 move to the Cherries.

However, a £30m asking price could prove a problem for Sheffield United.

Deeney confirms talks

Troy Deeney has told talkSPORT that he held talks with Jose Mourinho over a potential move to Spurs.

Spurs landed Carlos Vinicius on loan in the summer window as their search for a striker finally came to an end.

Yet they were also linked with Watford striker Deeney, and he has now confirmed talks.

"I'm 32," he said. "A lot of clubs were looking for a different style of striker as a back-up.

“Obviously everyone wants to play a certain way but when you get into certain moments you need someone to hold it up or if you are losing a game, go long.

“There were a lot of talks. Some things materialised, some things didn’t. The ones that were getting closer, you start thinking are you ready to go back to the Premier League to be a bit-part player.

“I’ve been at Watford 10 years and then you start weighing the options of calling it a day. When you get into that mould of being a super-sub you can’t go back.”

He added: "I saw Jose at the Watford vs Spurs game in pre-season. That’s all I will say.

"When you get to Spurs you know the difference between the lesser clubs and the big boys. It’s a different experience. I think we all watched the Amazon thing – their training ground is ridiculous. Their stadium is ridiculous.

"You want to test yourself as well. I’m not going to go in there and say ‘I’m better than Harry Kane’. I know what I can do and what I can deliver and there’s not many people who can do what I can do."
