"Following surgery, our medical staff shall be reviewing management options for Son’s rehabilitation with the player expected to be sidelined for a number of weeks."

The injury will come as a major blow to Tottenham, with Harry Kane already sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Son has scored 16 goals in all competitions so far this season, including the last minute winner against Villa on Sunday.

The 27-year-old will miss some important games for Spurs due to the injury, with the Champions League round of 16 first leg against RB Leipzig being followed by a crucial Premier League game against Chelsea.

Games against Manchester United, Arsenal and Leicester City are also on the horizon for Jose Mourinho's men.
