Harry Kane moved to within two goals of surpassing Jimmy Greaves as Tottenham’s record scorer with the winner as they edged past Portsmouth in the FA Cup third-round.

Kane fired Spurs ahead at the start of the second half with his 265th goal for the club, breaking the deadlock after another below par opening 45 minutes from Antonio Conte’s side.

Dan Kilpatrick was at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to rate the Spurs players...

Fraser Forster 6

Made a bit of a meal of a tame early effort but commanded his area well.

Japhet Tanganga 6

Got forward to overlap Emerson and was comfortable defensively.

Davinson Sanchez 7

Made some important last-ditch interventions and put himself about in both boxes.

Ben Davies 6

Stepped out of defence encouragingly and involved in a few nice exchanges with Sessegnon down the left.

Emerson Royal 5

Offered little in the way of thrust or final ball from wing-back but was unlucky not to score when he headed against the post at the start of the second half.

Oliver Skipp 5

Full of running but looked rusty, and his second touch was too often a 50-50. Blazed a glorious chance to make it 2-0 over the bar.

Pape Matar Sarr 7

A couple of wild passes aside, the teenager was assured and moved the ball well. Looks a tidy player with a good touch.

Ryan Sessegnon 6

Passing was loose and ran down too many blind alleys, but played a smart one-two with Kane for the goal.

Bryan Gil 7

A number of lively moments in another eye-catching display. Final ball wasn’t quite there.

Heung-min Son 6

Flashed a few efforts wide, including a free-kick, suggesting he is still not back to his menacing best despite scoring midweek.

Harry Kane 8

Broke the deadlock with a cracking finish to move within a goal of equalling Jimmy Greaves’ all-time Spurs record. Arsenal are up next.

Subs

Djed Spence (Sessegnon 76’) 6

Added thrust down the right in another late cameo. Would have been nice to see him get longer or start the game.

Alfie Devine (Gil 90’) N/A

Teenager made a late cameo.

Not used: Lloris, Doherty, Mundle, Hojbjerg, Romero, Lenglet, White
