Tottenham player ratings: Harry Kane and Joe Rodon impress, Davinson Sanchez poor vs Newcastle

Hugo Lloris

Made a wonderful double save to deny Dwight Gayle in the first half, with his first save an excellent piece of goalkeeping on the stretch to stop his header finding the bottom corner. 7

Japhet Tanganga

Started again at right-back after his showing last time out at Villa Park and unfortunately played a part in Newcastle's opener with a poor pass when trying to play out from the back. Lucky to get away with one in the second half after Joelinton found himself in space at the back post only to shoot wide. Not exactly a convincing performance to follow up his previous display. 5

Davinson Sanchez

Poor early header created an opening for Joelinton and was sloppy with his play a number of times, including his clearance that ended with the Newcastle frontman scoring. Has played well recently but was far from his best today. 5

Joe Rodon

Made some excellent blocks and looked solid after a very good international break for Wales. Really good outing for the youngster as he made a real case for a regular starting spot to his manager. 7

Sergio Reguilon

Always looked to get forward at any opportunity after he was declared fit enough to start. Couldn't win his header at the back post that saw Joe Willock level things up late on. 5

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Really should have done better with a poor attempt of a tackle on the edge of his own half that saw Joelinton score the opener. Some important blocks but not at his best at St James' Park. 6

Tanguy Ndombele

Made a number of great runs and got an assist for Harry Kane's second of the afternoon. Another outstanding pass almost saw the striker complete his hat-trick but he was denied. One of the better performers on a day to forget for the team. 7

Giovani Lo Celso

Had a role in Kane's first goal as his overhit pass culminated in the England captain tapping home after the ball broke kindly to him. Some good stuff but also some poor play at times. 6

Lucas Moura

Utilised on the left again with Spurs playing 4-4-2 but just couldn't influence the game like he has done in previous weeks despite a bright opening ten minutes. The change in formation saw him move position in the second half but he was just on for over 15 minutes before he was substituted. 5

Carlos Vinicius

Handed another start by Mourinho and made an immediate impact as he won the ball off Emil Krafth but his cross couldn't find his strike partner. Things just didn't work for him and he made way at the break as the boss changed things about. 5

Harry Kane

Went close to an early opener after a positive run into the box and got his goal with a simple finish seconds after Newcastle had opened the scoring. Didn't have to wait long for his second as he arrowed the ball into the bottom corner. Had a chance to complete his hat-trick with 20 minutes to go but Martin Dubravka saved well. Star man again. 8

Substitutes

Son Heung-min (Carlos Vinicius, 45)

Made his return from injury in the second half but struggled to really make an impact. 5

Erik Lamela (Lucas Moura, 64)

Started brightly as is the case when he usually comes on but he couldn't help Spurs grab a second. 6

Gareth Bale (Giovani Lo Celso, 88)

On for the final couple of minutes as Spurs looked for a late winner. N/A
