Tottenham murder: Teen guilty of killing 18-year-old moped rider with shotgun blast

A teenager could serve “a long time in prison” after being found guilty of murdering a moped rider by shooting him in Tottenham, north London, last year.

Reagan Konin, 19, fired at 18-year-old Andre Salmon with a shotgun, with bullets hitting him in the chest - causing the rider to crash into a parked car in Constable Crescent.

Konin handed himself in on July 8, five days after the attack, and said that he had thought the gun was a replica and that it had gone off unintended. He claimed to have been given it by a drug dealer and was carrying it around for his protection.

He pleaded not guilty to murder but admitted affray.

However, a trial heard that Konin had chased another man three days before the shooting with a machete and that the shooting was part of his pursuit.

A Snaresbrook Crown Court jury found him guilty on Tuesday and Konin will be sentenced at the same court on March 28 at the same court.

Metropolitan Police detective chief inspector Dave Whellams who led the investigation said: “Once again, a young man has lost his life in an act of violence and another family is grieving.

“Reagan Konin claimed that the shotgun went off accidentally but based on the evidence they heard, the jury convicted him of murder.

“There are still a lot of unanswered questions about what happened, and Konin will now have a long time in prison to reflect on his actions. However, nothing will take away the pain that he inflicted last summer.”
