Tottenham fans disagree with Gary Lineker's manager claim as Nuno Espirito Santo decision made

Tottenham's long wait to appoint a new boss appears to have taken yet another twist with Nuno Espirito Santo linked with taking over at Turkish club Fenerbahce.

The Portuguese manager had been in talks with the club to become the new man in charge, but reports in Turkey now claim the ex-Wolves boss will be moving abroad for his next adventure.

This comes as another setback in this drawn-out managerial search for Spurs fans.

Tottenham have been linked with many names - Antonio Conte, Mauricio Pochettino, Paulo Fonseca, Genaro Gattuso and Graham Potter among those - but have yet to succeed in hiring their Jose Mourinho replacement.

With pre-season just around the corner, Spurs will be looking to appoint their new manager as soon as possible.

But all Tottenham fans are probably wondering who's next in this saga.

BBC Match of the Day and former striker Gary Lineker has given his opinion on social media, advising Daniel Levy and the higher-ups at the club who he believes to be the perfect fit, while giving a playful joke about the Espirito Santo latest.

Lineker said on Twitter: "Nuno Espírito Santo becomes the 483rd person to turn down the @SpursOfficial job.

"I'm working with someone who actually would love the job and loves the club.

"@J_Klinsmann [Jurgen Klinsmann] would be a great fit: charismatic, knowledgeable, experienced and a former player and fan favourite."

Lineker's opinion has caused quite a stir on social media among Tottenham fans. Some good and some bad reactions, but the overwhelming majority disagreed with him on this occasion.

Other Spurs fans have also shown their displeasure on this take from Lineker.

@musa_v2 said: "No offence to Jurgen he’s a Spurs legend we love you but I’d rather [Ryan] Mason."

@TanguyNdembele responded: "Loving the job doesn't mean you're good at the job."

@thfccharley tweeted: "1. No one wanted Nuno 2. Klinsmann would be awful."

Unsurprisingly, not everyone is in disagreement with Lineker's views on the situation.

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand also showed his support towards his now colleague at the BBC, by simply quote retweeting Lineker and saying "Klinsmann for Spurs!".

The now 56-year-old has had a total of four managerial jobs so far in his career, and has not won a major honour in any of those roles.

His latest stint in management came with German club Hertha Berlin, a spell which only lasted 10 games.

Three wins, three draws and four defeats - coupled with a bitter falling out with the board in regards to his resignation - left a bitter taste for everyone involved with the German club at the time.

The German coach has now been without a job for more than a year, and is keen to get back into the managerial wrestling ring, despite the tough nature of his last role.

Speaking on Tottenham's managerial search one month ago, Klinsmann said he would be interested in the role.

"I called him after he let Mourinho go saying, ‘Daniel what’s the case now?’," Klinsmann told BBC Sport. "He [Levy] said to me, ‘listen, I have so much to do right now, sort things out at the club, let’s talk a little later on’.

"Then I saw all the different names, and talking, and walking out. And it’s still the same today. Spurs are in my heart, absolutely. I would consider that… but if he [Levy] doesn’t want to I cannot force him."

When asked if interested in taking the role, Klinsmann replied: "Absolutely."
