Tottenham evening headlines as John Stones rejects Spurs move, Sessegnon comments on loan exit

Here are the Tottenham Hotspur evening headlines on Tuesday 6th October.

Sessegnon excited to join kings of youth development

Spurs left-back Ryan Sessegnon has described his happiness at securing a Deadline Day loan move to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.

The German club swooped for Sessegnon with the 20-year-old Englishman unlikely to feature at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season due to the arrival of Sergio Reguilón and the presence of Ben Davies and Danny Rose.

"It's a club that produces young players into big players, in one of the most competitive leagues in the world.

"So I'm very happy to be here and can't wait to get going," the former Fulham man said of his new employers.

The lowdown on Spurs' transfer window, Joe Rodon and what next

Sessegnon revealed his good feeling towards signing for the Bundesliga club at his unveiling yesterday, stating he was eager to get down to business early and start playing football.

The England U-21 man described his playing style for journalists and club officials in attendance.

£50million spend on successful Spurs window

Tottenham Hotspur’s net spend from this summer’s transfer period has been revealed, amounting to a reasonable £50 million .

The sale of Kyle Walker-Peters to Southampton for a sum in the region of £12million has offset the purchases of Matt Doherty, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, Sergio Reguilón and Carlos Vinícius.

Free transfer addition Joe Hart and Real Madrid loanee Gareth Bale were not included in the transfer expenditure due to their deals contributing nothing in the way of an official transfer fee.

However, it is understood that Bale’s loan fee and wage contributions will arrive at the £20 million mark by the season’s end, according to Sky Sports – around 40% of the club’s net spend figure this summer.

José Mourinho’s additions have not broken the bank, meaning that with sales taken into consideration, the club have spent markedly less than Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool and even some of the clubs further down the table including Wolves, Leeds United and Aston Villa.

Stones snubs Spurs switch

Manchester City defender John Stones reportedly turned down a Deadline Day move to Tottenham, citing his desire to remain in the North West with his family, according to the Mail .

Stones has seen Pep Guardiola add Nathan Aké and Rúben Dias to his City squad this summer, in what is a clear move indicating the Spaniard is dissatisfied with his options in central defence.

Spurs had been keen to add an experienced centre-back to their squad this summer, to replace the now-departed Jan Vertonghen. José Mourinho was unable to deliver on that but has bolstered the squad in other key areas including both full-back positions and up front.

Stones appears set to see out his City deal which expires in 2022, and may find himself back in the first-team fold if injuries to Aymeric Laporte return, and youngster Eric García makes his long-awaited return to Barcelona.
