Tottenham evening headlines as Europa League group confirmed and Bale 'wanted United move'

Here are the latest Tottenham Hotspur evening headlines for Friday, October 2.

Tottenham discover their three Europa League group stage opponents

Jose Mourinho and Tottenham will face Ludogorets, LASK, and Royal Antwerp in the Europa League group stages.

Spurs earned their place in the group stages by overcoming Lokomotiv Plovdiv and Shkendija in their first two qualifiers, before a 7-2 win against Maccabi Haifa in their play-off match.

Man United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continues Jose Mourinho war of words with pointed dig

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has taken a subtle dig at his predecessor Jose Mourinho following his departure in December 2018.

The pair have engaged in a war of words during the build-up to their meeting at Old Trafford on Sunday, with neither party looking like backing down.

The Norwegian joked about Mourinho after the Tottenham boss complained about the height of crossbars being 5cm too low during his side’s Europa League win in Macedonia against Shkendija.

The Portuguese responded with a dig about United’s over-reliance on penalties and suggesting that he’d prefer if the penalty box was extended by four yards.

Solskjaer was asked in his pre-match press conference to compare the progress United have made since Mourinho's departure in 2018, but he refused.

"I'm not sure if I'm the right one to talk about progress or where we're at," Solskjaer told reporters.

"I've had my view on what to do and had the backing to go with my plans and vision, and we're all different.

"We've given young players a go and let many good players go, other people can assess that progress but I'm enjoying working in this environment."

Gareth Bale ‘wanted Man Utd move’ before growing tired of Jadon Sancho saga

Gareth Bale was keen to join Manchester United before he sealed a return to Tottenham this summer, according to reports.

Bale, 31, rejoined Spurs from Real Madrid on loan and had previously been linked with a big money move to Manchester United.

According to ESPN, United could have beaten Spurs to the signing of Bale during the transfer window had they abandoned plans to sign Jadon Sancho.

The Borussia Dortmund winger has been a long-term target for Man Utd, but the two clubs have failed to agree a deal.
