Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier withdraws from England duty with groin injury

Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier has withdrawn from the England squad due to a groin injury.

The right-back was forced off in the first half as Tottenham battled to a 1-0 at Selhurst Park on Saturday evening.

Trippier reported for international duty on Monday but was sent back to Tottenham after being assessed at St. George's Park.

A replacement for the upcoming matches against United States and Croatia is yet to be announced.

Danny Welbeck, who suffered an ankle injury before the squad was announced, is the only other person to withdraw from Gareth Southgate's selection.

Trippier is the ninth of 12 Spurs players to suffer an injury following their involvement in the World Cup, with Davinson Sanchez missing the London derby with a groin injury.

A timescale on Trippier's rehabilitation has not been confirmed by club or country.

Wayne Rooney makes his return to the international fold on Thursday as United States visit for a friendly before World Cup finalists Croatia come to Wembley for a crunch Uefa Nations League clash.
