Tottenham defender Danny Rose's first words as Newcastle loan deal is confirmed

Newcastle have confirmed a deal to sign Tottenham left-back Danny Rose.

The defender has moved to St. James' Park on loan until the end of the season.

Rose has been in North London since joining from Leeds as a 16-year-old for a fee of around £1million, and still has over a year left on his current Spurs contract.

The England international insisted back in November that he would not be leaving Spurs, and would be seeing out his deal in North London, but a reduction in playing time under Jose Mourinho has meant a rethink.

The loan deal is said to be worth £2million for Spurs, and Rose admitted he is excited at getting started at "one of the biggest clubs in England."

"It's a great honour for me to be here. I'm so grateful that the manager has brought me in and I’m looking to repay him in every way I can as soon as I'm playing," Rose told NUFC TV.

"For me, it's really exciting that I can come here and have the chance to play in front of the Newcastle fans.

"Newcastle is one of the biggest clubs in England. I spoke to the manager last night and he told me there were 50,000 fans here at the weekend against Oxford.

"You can’t go wrong with that kind of passion and support from the fans, and it’s something I’m looking forward to."
