Tottenham have signed the Swansea and Wales defender Joe Rodon for a fee believed to be in the region of £11m rising to a potential £15m.

The 22-year-old has signed a five-year deal, joining Spurs just before the domestic transfer deadline following extensive negotiations.

Spurs first started talking to Swansea on the international deadline day but it took a further 10 days for a deal to be struck.

Rodon, who played against England for Wales last week, joins international team-mates Gareth Bale and Ben Davies at Spurs. However, he has not joined in time to play against West Ham on Sunday and will not be eligible for any of Tottenham’s Europa League group games.

Rodon made his Swansea debut against Preston in August 2018 and made 28 appearances during that campaign. He followed that up with 21 appearances last season and earned his first Wales cap in the 2-1 victory against Azerbaijan last September, going on to earn a further six for Ryan Giggs’s men.

Swansea recruited Wolves centre-back Ryan Bennett and Manchester City defender Joel Latibeaudiere on deadline day. Both players join on free transfers, while Spurs centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers heads to Bournemouth on a season-long loan.

Eagles swoop for Butland, Fulham sign Kongolo

Crystal Palace have signed Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland for a reported initial fee of just £1m, with performance-related add-ons.

Butland has not featured for the Potters so far this season, and has been brought in to provide cover for Vicente Guaita, with Wayne Hennessey out injured until February. The 27-year-old has signed a three-year deal at Selhurst Park, with Stoke signing Southampton goalkeeper Angus Gunn on a season-long loan.

“Jack is a player that I worked with for four years at England,” said the Palace manager, Roy Hodgson. “I’ve always believed in Jack’s potential. I sincerely believe that with his qualities, coming to a new club will enable him to resurrect his career and show once again what a good goalkeeper he is.”

Elsewhere, Fulham made a late move to strengthen their defence, signing Huddersfield centre-back Terence Kongolo for a reported £4m fee. The move came after new loan recruit Joachim Andersen was ruled out for several weeks with an ankle problem.

“I’m really happy,” Kongolo told FFCtv. It’s been a while, been waiting the whole day, but the end result is I can play for Fulham! I’m proud to be here, and I will give everything for this club.”

The Dutch international joined Fulham on loan in January, but saw his stay curtailed by injury. The Cottagers have also allowed winger Anthony Knockaert to join Nottingham Forest on loan.

Liverpool youngsters Harry Wilson and Harvey Elliott have been loaned out to Cardiff City and Blackburn Rovers respectively. Cardiff also signed Charlton goalkeeper Dillon Phillips, and agreed a loan move for Leicester centre-back Filip Benkovic on deadline day.
