Tottenham Hotspur made an offer for Metz forward Habib Diallo in the January transfer window.
That's according to the Senegal international's agent, Thierno Seydi.
The Lilywhites were extremely busy at the beginning of the year, in what was Jose Mourinho first window after replacing Mauricio Pochettino as head coach a couple of months prior.
Two new faces arrived in north London outfit in the shape of Gedson Fernandes and Steven Bergwijn, while Giovani Lo Celso's loan deal from Real Betis was made permanent.
As well as that, Spurs also said goodbye to Christian Eriksen as he joined Inter Milan, while Danny Rose, Kyle Walker-Peters and Jack Clarke departed on loan deals until the end of the season.
Although, the one possible disappointment for Mourinho was that a striker didn't arrive to cover for Harry Kane who was injured at the time.
With that said, it wasn't for the lack of trying as their offer for Diallo proves they were active and they've been given encouragement that things could be different in the summer.
"Already in January, there was an offer from Tottenham," Seydi said, as per Get Football News France.
"As soon as the European markets open, things should precipitate."
Prior to the 2019/20 Ligue 1 season being cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, Diallo was enjoying an excellent campaign.
His 12 goals in 26 appearances was a key reason for Metz avoiding an immediate return to the second tier of French football.
Valued at 10.8m on transfermarkt, Diallo could be the shrewd signing Tottenham are looking for to provide adequate competition to Kane in the centre-forward role.
