Saudi Arabia reported on Wednesday 2,171 new coronavirus cases, raising its total to 91,182 cases.
The Health Ministry said 683 infections were confirmed in Riyadh, 418 in Jeddah, 279 in the holy city of Makkah and 167 in Madinah.
The ministry added that 2,369 more people have recovered from the disease, taking the count yo 68,159.
Thirty new fatalities take the Kingdom’s toll to 579.
Saudi authorities said earlier this month that virus restrictions would be lifted in three phases, culminating in a curfew ending on June 21, with the exception of Makkah.
The first phase, implemented last week, saw the 24-hour curfew reduced to between 3 pm-6 am countrywide. Free movement between regions and some retail and wholesale activities, including malls, were allowed to resume.
On Sunday, free movement was allowed between 6 am and 8 pm and domestic flights resumed, but a ban on international flights remains in place. Mosques were also reopened for prayers, with social distancing and hygiene measures in place. Restrictions have remained in Makkah.
Public and private sector employees have also been allowed to return to their offices.
