Tory Northumberland council candidate misspells 'Druridge Bay' on election leaflet

A Tory candidate has been left red-faced for misspelling the name of the constituency she is standing in on an election leaflet.

Janet Whiteley is hoping to win the Druridge Bay division on Northumberland County Council on May 6.

On pamphlets sent out to homes across the constituency, the Conservative Party's candidate referred to herself on the front page as "A new champion for the Duridge Bay division".

In a second spelling error, the flyer refers to the ward as "Drurage Bay".

The embarrassing mistakes, pointed out by residents who have received the leaflet, have been made despite Ms Whiteley living in Northumberland.

A Conservative spokesman said: "On some rare occasions we make a typo on a leaflet, the wording was correct in all other parts of the leaflet.

"Needless to say the good people of Druridge Bay would be better off with a Conservative councillor after the 6 th May.

"In this election we have seen some good typos from our opponents.

"The Berwick North Labour candidate has been talking about 'Flesidents' and 'Flegeneration', whilst the Green Party candidate in Berwick was hoping to become a 'counselor'.

"In Hexham the Labour candidate for Hexham Central started speaking at her residents in what appeared to be Latin.

"Needless to say the residents we speak to always feel the Labour party is not talking their language in any case."
