Top spirit producer launches awards scheme for Monklands residents and organisations

One of Scotland’s leading spirits producers has launched a new awards scheme to celebrate and reward Monklands residents and organisations working hard to make a difference to others in their local community.

The inaugural International Beverage Spirit of Our Community Awards is now open for entries from any charity or not-for-profit organisation based in the Airdrie and Coatbridge areas surrounding the company’s head office.

A £10,000 award is on offer for one stand out project - and two runners up are set to receive £1000 each, in what is the company’s biggest charity commitment to date.

Having spent years working with and supporting local charity groups, including St Andrew’s Hospice and Hope for Autism, the company’s employee-led charity group wanted to step up its role in the community where many HQ staff live and work.

The Spirit of our Community Awards is the result, providing a route for them to support more good causes in Airdrie and Coatbridge.

Interested groups and charities now have six weeks to submit their entries before the October 31 deadline.

Every submission will be reviewed by a panel of judges, made up of members of International Beverage’s Airdrie-based team alongside representatives from long standing local charity partners.

Awards organiser, International Beverage business support manager Eileen Rae, explained what the judges are looking for, saying that it’s all about ideas that will have a positive impact on local lives.

She told Lanarkshire Live : ‘We are very proud and excited to be launching the Spirit of Our Community Awards, and to be continuing the work our business has done over the years to play an active role in the local Airdrie community.

"There are so many wonderful charities and groups out there doing the most inspiring work, dedicating themselves to helping others at a time when people need this kind of support more than ever.

"It’s so important to our business that we support this work. So, to any organisation that has an exciting project that needs funding or just needs a bit of a helping hand to continue the great work they are already doing, please get your entries in."

The Spirit of Our Community Awards will run in the Monklands area this year, with a view to extending the initiative to communities close to the company’s five Scottish distilleries in the future.
