Top most popular Netflix series from the past year

Research has revealed what the highest - and lowest - rated episodes from Netflix limited series were over the past year.

A Netflix limited series is a mini-series, usually between four and 10 episodes, where the main story arc of the show is fully resolved within that time-frame.

Examples of such series released over the past year include Sweet Magnolias, Never Have I Ever and The Queen's Gambit.

To find out which Netflix originals are the most popular, and ultimately most worth your viewing time in lockdown, bingo app Tombola delved into the reviews on IMDB to see what comes out on top.

As Netflix’s most popular original series, it's not a huge surprise that the finale of The Queen’s Gambit is the highest of all episodes analysed with a rating of 9.4 on IMDB.

The seven-parter, which is about an orphaned chess prodigy played by Anya Taylor-Joy, dominates the top 10 list.

The finale of Never Have I Ever, which follows the complicated life of a first-generation Indian-American teenager, takes the second spot with a rating of 8.9.

Perhaps surprisingly, no episode of the much-discussed Bridgerton makes the top 10.

Netflix limited series top 10 highest rated episodes:

  1. The Queen's Gambit (finale) - 9.4
  2. Never Have I Ever (finale) - 8.9
  3. The Queen's Gambit (ep.2) - 8.8
  4. Never Have I Ever (ep.6) - 8.6
  5. The Queen's Gambit (ep.4) - 8.6
  6. Outer Banks (ep.8) - 8.5
  7. Never Have I Ever (ep.9) - 8.5
  8. Sweet Magnolias (finale) - 8.5

  10. The Queen's Gambit (ep.6) - 8.5

The data also reveals what the lowest rated Netflix episodes from limited series are from the past year.

While the main Tiger King documentary was a massive hit, the aftershow wasn't such a success - and is the lowest-rated episode analysed with a rating of 5.2.

Love is Blind, which premiered in February 2020, has five episodes which feature in the unenviable table.

Of all the shows analysed, Love is Blind also has the lowest average rating at 6.4.

Netflix limited series lowest rated episodes:

  1. Tiger King (aftershow) - 5.2
  2. Love is Blind (Pilot) - 6
