Top doctor shares the main five Omicron symptoms to look out for

TV doctor Amir Khan has revealed the five main Omicron symptoms to look out for.

After nearly two years of living through a pandemic, most people are familiar with tell-tale signs of Coronavirus, but many medics say the new variant comes with different symptoms.

Speaking ITV's Lorraine Dr Amir explained: "A scratchy throat, mild muscle aches, extreme tiredness, a dry cough and night sweats.

"So those kind of drenching night sweats where you might have to get up and change your clothes.

"This is important and it's important that we keep on top of these symptoms. If we are going to track Omicron and track it worldwide, we need to be able to test people with these symptoms."

"If they go onto the NHS website and say they have night sweats and muscle aches, they may not be able to book a PCR test.

"So we need the NHS website to keep up with these symptoms. So people can book a PCR test and we can keep track of numbers and symptoms."

Dr Amir, who still works as a GP in Bradford between telly appearances, recently shared a snap of him in his scrubs with colleagues who dressed in bold Christmas jumpers.

He said: "Apparently it’s Christmas jumper day today at the surgery and I didn’t get the email!

"Feeling totally left out..

Dr Amir also recently shared a snap of him on Instagram wearing full PPE with the caption: "So I’m back to seeing patients who have any kind of cough, fever or potential Covid symptoms like this, it’s not ideal but has to be done, we ask that all adults do a PCR test first so it’s mostly kids we see like this or home visits where it’s slightly more unpredictable.

"A lot has been said in the media about GPs “cancelling” other appointments to make way for booster clinics," he added.

"Well I have just finished my morning surgery, and seen adults and children face to face as well as on the telephone

The doctor continued: "If you are unwell or have any symptoms you are worried about, and yes that includes non Covid things (in fact especially those) GPs are still open - yes I know it’s hard to get an appointment but that’s because there aren’t enough GPs but we are doing our best and will do our best for you."

He was met by phrase from fans, with many thanking him and the NHS for their hard work.

"Can you be my doctor... constantly anxious," one wrote.

Another said: "All GP’s and their staff doing a great job under such pressure. Take care of yourselves."
