Tony Awards winners: Jennifer Hudson achieves EGOT status and Toby Marlow makes history

Actress Jennifer Hudson has achieved the coveted EGOT status after bagging a Tony Award in New York on Sunday.

The star served as a producer for A Strange Loop, which achieved the gong for Best Musical at the 75th edition of the annual ceremony.

It means she has now been recognised by all four major entertainment awards; an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and a Tony.

The prestigious status had previously only been awarded to 16 people, including the likes of Whoopi Goldberg, Andrew Lloyd Webber and John Legend.

Elsewhere at the Tony Awards, Toby Marlow made history by becoming the first non-binary Tony-winner.

The creator of the historical comedy musical, Six, won best original score (music and/or lyrics) written for the theatre, alongside co-creator Lucy Moss.

The creation showcases a modern retelling of the lives of the six wives of Henry VIII and is presented in a pop concert setting.

It received eight Tony nominations in total, including best new musical, best original score, best direction of a musical, best costume design of a musical, best lighting design of a musical, best sound design of a musical, best choreography and best orchestrations.

There was also disappointed during the memoriam segment of the show with John Stamos admitting he wasn't impressed to learn that late comedian Bob Saget had been left out.

The US actor said the Broadway community "loved" Bob and had urged the organisation to include him in the remembrance section of the show.
