Tommy Fury’s fight against Jake Paul later this month is OFF after the Love Island star pulled out of the contest.
The pair were set to finally meet in the ring in Florida on December 18, having traded barbs over social media for weeks before agreeing to terms on a fight.
Fury’s preparations for the bout though have not quite gone to plan, with the Manchester-born fighter having to give up on his initial plans to train in the United States due to personal reasons.
He has since been training alongside half-brother Tyson and father John, although his camp was affected again after Tommy caught a cold.
No reason has yet been given as to why Fury has pulled out, although Mirror Fighting sources have indicated that Paul’s team were informed of the decision late last night.
It leaves a lot of decisions up in the air, and while Paul’s immediate plans already look to have been sorted, questions will remain over what’s next for Fury.
What is Tommy Fury’s boxing record?
The fight against Paul was set to be the eighth bout of Fury’s career, which is still yet to really take off.
Fury was won all seven of his previous fights, with four of those coming by knockout, although his last couple of outings haven’t exactly been convincing.
Having begun his career by beating Jevgenijs Andrejevs on points in 2018, Fury then stopped Callum Ide, Przemyslaw Binienda, Genadij Krajevskij and Scott Williams over the next couple of years.
He then recorded a points victory over Jordan Grant in June this year, before beating MMA fighter-turned boxer Anthony Taylo r via a unanimous decision after a laboured showing.
29/08/2021 vs Anthony Taylor – won via UD
05/06/2021 vs Jordan Grant – won via points
27/02/2021 vs Scott Williams – won via KO
13/11/2020 vs Genadij Krajevskij – won via TKO
21/12/2019 vs Przemyslaw Binienda – won via TKO
23/03/2019 vs Callum Ide – won via KO
22/12/2018 vs Jevgenijs Andrejevs – won via points
What’s next for Fury and Paul?
It remains to be seen whether the two will be able to come to an agreement on another fight, with Paul having always held doubts over whether Fury would go through with it.
Fury is likely to face criticism for his decision to pull out, and it will be interesting to see what route he goes down next.
As for Paul, he already looks to have secured a new opponent, with Tyron Woodley set to replace Fury as he gets his rematch against the YouTube star.
